Greece is an amazing place. It has unimaginable beauty, but the Greeks will often be completely unaware of it or treat it with disdain. They are a wonderful race and can be the best and most generous people in the world. They can also make your life hell! I love them and hate them according to which particular aspect I am dealing with at the time. They are however, never dull!
Skiathos is, in my opinion, the best island in the Greek Archipelago. Of course, I am prejudiced, having lived here for almost 40 years and having had, with my wife, the time of my life here. Skiathos has given us all we would ever wish for. Independence to make our lives as we wanted. Beautiful and abundant nature to feast our eyes on and fill our bellies with. Beaches and the sea to relax in and play on. Time to understand the rhythms of life. Acceptance by the locals of who we are, the good and bad sides of us. It has been an experience that I would not trade for any money in the world. If I had to sum up the island in one word, it would be this: “MAGIC”.
